Wine Tasting under the Laguna Sun

A fun afternoon Saturday when almost 40 people joined together to taste and have fun (maybe learn a thing or two). The theme was to walk around the aisle in the wine store and explore other types of wines, styles and stay under $20/bottle.

We tasted 3 representative styles of Chardonnay – Oaky and buttery Californian, Unoaked Californian and a French Chardonnay from Languedoc. The wines were: The Big Churn 2021 ($5.99); Carmel Road ($11.99); and Novellum 2021 ($12.95), Most of the guests had tried the Big Churn before and liked it. When they did a side-by-side taste test with the Carmel Road, most preferred the unoaked version. When they did the comparison with the Carmel Road and the Novellum, it was pretty much split. Everyone was surprised at the differences and were certainly open to exploring more.

The theme for the reds was to try different varietals. The three reds were a Kermit Lynch Cote du Rhone $13.99 (Grenache, Syrah blend), Bordeaux Red blend $11.99 (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) from Graves and a 2019 Indigenous Nebbiolo $14.98 (Piedmonte, IT). Everyone enjoyed each of the selections – many had never tried any of these styles of wines.

This was a Charity event that raised money for the Women’s Group at St Mary’s. We know that the money raised will go to very use and help the underserved in our community. Thank you all that participated and volunteered.

This is great George read,- love it and I’ll share it with Vanessa and others. I posted all the pictures on my Facebook page and also on the St. Marys Facebook page. I don’t think you do Facebook but you can probably see it on the St. Marys site if you’re interested in that. Quite a few pictures of you!

In the last paragraph, you omitted the word good or whatever word you were planning on using. Also, it’s either Piedmont or Piemonte, but not Piedmonte.

Really great write up and I’m sure a lot of people will enjoy it thoroughly! Thank you so much for giving us such a wonderful evening!
