It’s a Tag Line but it’s also a philosophy. I’ve been drinking wine since I was a kid. My parents were from Europe and drinking wine was part of their life. It was pretty common that we had a glass (cut with a little water) with dinner and as with most Europeans, wine was food and part of the meal.
Like most people, I just drank my wine and I could tell if I liked it or not but I never spent much time thinking about it. Over the last few years, I’ve had a few epiphanies but the one that spawned the Tag Line was when Annie and I were in Southern Indiana. Annie was speaking at a conference in Louisville and we had Sunday off. I figured as it was Sunday in November, Southern Indiana would have homemade pie. I come to find out, Southern Indiana is pretty much closed on Sunday but we did find a small town Christmas Craft Fair so we checked it out. In the corner of the building was a wine tasting sign. People were lined up 3 and 4 deep to get in there. I managed to snag a menu and there were three choices – Sweet, Sparkling and Fortified and the bottles were selling for $3 each. People were walking out of there with cases of the stuff. Epiphany – never judge other people’s tastes as these folks obviously loved the wine that they were buying.
After that, I decided to get serious about wine and began to study it. I registered for and passed my Certified Sommelier exam. It was the hardest test I’ve ever studied for and to this day, I still spend at least an hour or two studying every day. I do virtual wine tasting right now and in each one, I learn as much as the other participants do. They ask a lot of questions about wine and what confuses them. My goal is to make this blog and website meaningful and fun for the average wine drinker.
As the cover page of my website says, I specialize in great tasting wines for under $25 (many are under $15). Stay in touch and ask me questions or get recommendations. I look forward to exploring wine with you and Loving the Wine you are with.
